History

The Asian Collective started to bring together Asian-American/Canadian churches in the SBC. The vision for a distinct network connecting English-speaking pastors from various ethnic fellowships gave rise to the NextGen Pastors Network in 2021. 

Where We Are Today

2021: Peter Yanes (SBC Executive Committee) formed a leadership team consisting of Hyung Lee and Terrence Shay who recruited a national core team of regional pastors. Organized leadership retreat at For The Church Conference (Kansas City, MO). Started inaugural online Book Club (Gospel-Driven Ministry). 

2022: Made visits to Norcal, Arizona, and Texas. Finished Year 1 of Book Club. Produced two events at SBC22 (Pastors Panel - leadership, Pastors Wives Luncheon). Visited IMB HQ for inaugural AC NextGen summit (Ezra Bae). Attended Chinese Baptist Fellowship Conference in Milpitas, CA and hosted event (Jeremy Sin). Started Year 2 of Book Club (The Pastor and Counseling). Launched NextGen Pastors Network as an independent fellowship within SBC Asian Collective.

2023: Entity Visits - Guidestone (Hoon Im), IMB (Ezra Bae). Host booth and produce event at SBC23 (Pastors and Wives Luncheon - mental health/counseling). Connected with ethnic fellowship, association, state, and national leaders within the SBC. Started Year 3 of Book Club (Family Discipleship).

2024: Entity Visit - IMB (Ezra Bae). Host book and produce event at SBC24 (The Pastor/Leader and Family). Brainstorm mentoring program. Strengthened regional presence nationwide and launched website.

2025: Plan for National Pre-Conference at SBC25. Launch mentoring program.
